Phase 1: Preparation (The Key to Success)

1. Check Your Suitability: The ideal candidate has light to medium skin and dark brown or black hair. If unsure, consult the Fitzpatrick Skin Type chart in the manual.
2. Shave the Treatment Area: This is crucial. You must shave the area completely before using the IPL device. The light energy targets the root below the skin, not the hair on the surface. Shaving prevents surface hair from absorbing the energy and causing burns or odor.
3. Clean & Dry: Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and free of any lotions, creams, deodorants, or perfumes.
4. Plug It In: Connect the device to a power source. Most IPL devices are not cordless and require being plugged in for use.

Phase 2: The Treatment Session

1. Select the Energy Level: Start on the lowest setting (Level 1). Place the device against your skin. The built-in skin tone sensor will verify it's safe to flash.
2. Position the Device: Place the treatment window flush against your skin. A good seal ensures safety and effectiveness.
3. Flash the Light:

• For a manual device: Press the flash button. Lift the device, move it to the next adjacent spot (overlapping slightly), place it on the skin, and press the button again.
• For a device with a glide mode: Hold down the button and glide the device slowly over your skin. It will flash automatically.

1. Treat the Entire Area: Systematically work across your entire treatment area (e.g., lower leg, underarm). Avoid flashing the same spot multiple times in one session.

Phase 3: Post-Treatment Care

1. Soothe Your Skin: After treatment, your skin may be slightly warm and red. This is normal. You can apply a fragrance-free aloe vera gel or moisturizer to soothe it.
2. Avoid Sun Exposure: Treated skin will be sensitive to the sun. Avoid sun exposure and always use a high-SPF sunscreen on treated areas.
3. Be Patient, Don't Pluck!: Do not wax, pluck, or thread the hair between sessions. You can shave as needed. The treated hairs will naturally shed over 1-3 weeks.
